A spectacular production of Show Boat opens Sept 27 in Eskilstuna, featuring Frida Jansson, Jan Kyhle, Otto Maidi, Noluthando Mili a.o, choruses from Eskilstuna and Cape Town, South Africa and a 19-piece orchestra.

Following earlier successful summer concerts at Dalhalla, Josef again teamed up with Kalle Moraeus, this year conducting Gävle Symphony Orchestra accompanying soloists Malena Ernman, Babben Larsson, Dogge Doggelito and Orsa Spelmän.
The two concerts, viewed by more than 5000 visitors, presented a wide variety in genre; folk, classical, rap, opera, rock and jazz, including music by Glinka, Grieg, Rossini, Gershwin, Rhedin, Benny Andersson, Michel Legrand and others. One of many highlights was Malena Ernman finishing the Habanera of Carmen while swimming in the pond in front of the stage.

1st opening concert in Malmö sold out in 30 minutes

Merely 30 minutes after tickets sales started 17 March, the 1st concert was sold out. Immedeately a 2nd concert at 7 Nov was announced, featuring Sanna Nielsen, Robyn, Sanne Salomonsen, Erika Sunnegårdh, Andreas Johnson, Jill Johnson, Fredrik Lycke, Kalle Moraeus, Björn Kjellman and MSO.

Josef is MD and will conduct Malmö Symphony Orchestra, world premiere for a new orchestral piece by Benny Andersson. Artists performing are Helen Sjöholm, Andreas Johnson, Sanne Salomonsen, Jill Johnson, Fredrik Lycke, Erika Sunnegårdh and Kalle Moraeus. Björn Kjellman will host the show directed by Marianne Mörck.
Artists for the grand opening of arena in Malmö

November 6, 2008, marks the official opening of a new world class arena in Malmö, Sweden. Josef has been chosen to produce and conduct the grand opening show, an event that will become nothing short of spectacular.
“The show will be a tribute to The Swedish Music Wonder”, says Josef. “Ever since the 19th century Sweden has been exceptionally successful when it comes to music; singers like Jenny Lind, Jussi Björling and Birgit Nilsson have conquerred the greatest stages all over the world, as have pop groups like ABBA, Roxette and Ace of Base. Today, swedish songwriters write hits for international stars like Celine Dion and Britney Spears. The grand opening show is celebrating this phenomenon, a concert which will range from folk music, classical music, opera and choral singing to songs, musical, jazz and pop.” The cream of the swedish artist elite will perform at the opening accompanied by Malmö Symphony Orchestra, a pop band and choirs.

A crowd of almost 7000 gave standing ovations after the two concerts. ”Kalle Moraeus is now King of Dalhalla” states the critics of Dala-Demokraten.
The Dalasinfonietta under Josef Rhedin played Alfvén, Brahms and accompanied Kalle Moraeus, Bengan Jansson, Lisa Miskovsky, Sebastian and Orsa Spelmän.

Next week, Aug 19, Josef conducts Norrköping Symphony Orchestra in an outdoor concert with singers Hannah Holgersson and Fredrik Lycke.
In September the collaboration with Hannah continues on tour with Jönköping Sinfonietta in Småland.

Josef proudly presented his project ”The Swedish Music Wonder” to an enthusiastic audience of more than 20 000, conducting Malmö Symphony Orchestra performing orchestral music by Alfvén and Benny Andersson, accompanying Erika Sunnegårdh singing Verdi and Puccini, Robyn singing her own songs, international guest stars from Korea, Spain and Russia singing songs from Mamma Mia! the musical and much more.
